Country of Origin: Australia
Melaleuca Alternifolia, commonly referred as tea tree, is an evergreen shrub that is a member of the Myrtle family. It is indigenous to Australia and grows along the streams and swamps. The height of this plant is about 20 feet and has white papery bark. The leaves are narrow, soft and contain oil. The flowers of this plant are creamy-white in the shape of spikes.
Obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of the tea tree plant, this oil is immensely effective in treating many skin-related problems.
Tea tree oil contains a number of compounds that have been shown to kill certain bacteria, viruses and fungi.
These germ-fighting properties make tea tree oil a valued natural remedy for treating bacterial and fungal skin conditions and preventing infection.
Uses of Tea Tree Essential Oil:
Tea Tree Essential Oil’s active chemical components contribute to its reputation as a powerful yet gentle immune system stimulant, as well as to its ability to reduce or eliminate harmful bacteria and infections upon contact.
Never put undiluted essential oil on your skin! For topical use, add 12 drops of essential oil to 30ml of Oleia Pure Oil (2% dilution), or 18 drops of essential oil to 30ml of Oleia Pure Oil (3% dilution).
To use as antiseptic for wounds and anti-fungal for toenail fungus and Athlete’s foot, add 50 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil to 5ml to Oleia Pure Oil (50% dilution). Mix thoroughly in a glass bottle or container.
As a disinfecting air spray, Tea Tree Essential Oil acts as a natural, anti-microbial, non-toxic air freshener that removes bacteria, viruses, and mold from the environment.
Combined with Tangerine Essential Oil, this spray can freshen the room and eliminate the body odors trapped in shoes. To eliminate laundry odors caused by the microbial build-up in washing machines, three drops of Tea Tree Oil can be mixed in with laundry detergent.
Diffuser Blend for Eliminating Bacteria:
Mix 4 drops Tea Tree Oil, 4 drops Eucalyptus Oil, 4 drops Peppermint Oil and 4 drops Tangerine Oil thoroughly in a glass bottle. Pour the Oil Mix in a Diffuser with the right amount of water.
Contraindications:
We do not recommend the ingestion of essential oils. Pregnant and nursing women must seek the advice of a health care practitioner before using essential oils . Those taking prescription drugs are also advised to seek medical consultation prior to use.
Tea Tree Oil must never be used near the eyes, inner nose, or on any other particularly sensitive areas of skin. Once applied topically, sun exposure must be avoided, as the oil can sensitize the skin to UV rays.
