Easter in the Philippines: Faith, Family and…Eggs?

Easter in the Philippines: Faith, Family and…Eggs?

Hey there!

Happy Easter! If you’ve just come back from mass or you're getting in your Sunday clothes, welcome to that sweet little pause before the chaos of the day kicks in. Glad I caught you here. 😝 Easter mornings in the Philippines have their own kind of rhythm, don’t they? It starts early for a lot of us—some way before sunrise for the Salubong.

The Salubong, a time when the two processions meet—one with Mama Mary in black, the other with the Risen Christ—and when her veil is lifted, there’s a tangible shift. It’s simple but powerful, a moment of lightness after the heaviness of Holy Week. 🌟 Then comes the mass itself, with the Gloria finally back, flowers everywhere, bells ringing, and people greeting each other with smiles that feel a little brighter than usual. 😊

And then... we all go home—but not to rest. 😅 This is where Easter takes a sharp turn from peaceful to packed. The kitchen's heating up, titas are already plating lumpia, kids are chasing each other, and titos fire up the grill.

Enter the Easter egg hunt. It may not be a traditional Filipino thing, but we’ve embraced it like it’s been ours forever. 🥚 Whether it’s in the backyard or some neighborhood event, the kids are all in—baskets in hand, sugar-fueled energy on max. Meanwhile, we’re the ones bending over to hide eggs (or find them 😝), squatting to get cute photos, and doing crowd control so no one cries over the last golden egg. (It always ends in a little drama, let’s be honest.)

And at some point—maybe mid-afternoon, maybe right after the second round of dessert—our bodies start reminding us: that was a lot. 👵 The bending, lifting, running around in slippers... it adds up. And the joints are not as lubricated as it was before. 😂

So here’s your reminder to have your handy dandy purple bottle on standby. I’m planning to give my lower back a few drops of Oleia Lavender Oil later, or maybe Peppermint if I need a little pick-me-up. 🪻🍃 And if you’ve been on your feet since sunrise (plus moved two folding tables and a cooler full of ice), Oleia Softgels are there to help soothe the inflammation from the inside out. Trust me, your joints will thank you by dinner time.

Whether you're keeping it traditional or mixing it up with egg hunts and party games, Easter in the Philippines is always a mix of meaning and movement. Just don’t forget to wind down when the excitement fades. Maybe share what you did for the day with me? 😄

Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine. ‘Til next time! 👋
