Hey there! 🙋🏻️
Lavender has always had a reputation for being the “calm” essential oil—the one we reach for when we want to slow down, breathe a little deeper, or create a more relaxing atmosphere.
But recently, I came across a 2025 review that made me look at lavender oil from another perspective: its potential role in pain management and quality of life.
Published in the Jurnal Riset Kualitatif dan Promosi Kesehatan, the review by Danya Rania Aldi and Hafid Algristian examined existing clinical and experimental research on lavender essential oil and its effects on people living with chronic diseases and pain. Rather than testing lavender on a new group of patients, the researchers reviewed previous studies to see what the overall body of evidence was showing. 🧐
What did they find?
The review looked at research involving different types of pain, including neuropathic pain, arthritis, cancer-related pain, and fibromyalgia. The studies also used lavender in different ways: through inhalation, topical application, and aromatherapy massage.
One of the more interesting findings was the recurring association between lavender inhalation and reduced pain perception, better respiratory patterns, and improved mental well-being. 👀 The review discusses how pleasant aromas may encourage slower, deeper breathing, which may contribute to relaxation and the perception of comfort.
The researchers also discussed compounds found in lavender, particularly linalool and linalyl acetate, and their possible involvement in processes related to relaxation, inflammation, and pain signaling. Some of the proposed mechanisms involve the nervous system and sensory pathways, but the authors are clear that more research is still needed to understand exactly how lavender works, including the appropriate doses and methods of use.
They’re very clear that Lavender oil isn't a replacement for medical treatment or pain medication. But research like this adds to a growing conversation around complementary approaches to well-being. Small, sensory rituals that may help us feel more comfortable while we're taking care of ourselves in bigger ways.
So, where does lavender fit into everyday life?
This is where aromatherapy earns its place in anyone’s routine.
No need to overhaul anything. Lavender can be as simple as diffusing it while winding down, working it into a massage, or reaching for it whenever you want that familiar scent close by.
And if you're adding a lavender oil to the mix, Oleia Lavender Oil is the one to reach for. Sourced and formulated by a biochemist, every batch is held to a standard that shows in the oil itself.
Absolute quality and no gimmicks—just lavender oil, done the best way. 🪻
Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine? ‘Til next time!
