Cutting Down Microplastics: Simple Swaps, Stronger Body 🔃💪🏻

Cutting Down Microplastics: Simple Swaps, Stronger Body 🔃💪🏻

Hey there! 😄

Last time we talked about microplastics, the tiny menaces sneaking into our air, food, and even our water. 💧 Let’s be real though, we can’t escape them completely. They’re everywhere. But here’s what we can do, we can make small shifts that lower our exposure and help our bodies stay resilient.

Where do most of our microplastics come from?

Scientists say the biggest culprits aren’t the obvious ones, like plastic straws in the ocean. 🌊 It’s actually things like:

·        Synthetic clothing that sheds with every wash 👗

·        Dust inside our homes 💨

·        Plastic food packaging that rubs off into what we eat

·        Bottled water and even some tap water 🚰

What can we actually do to reduce daily exposure?

·        Swap out plastic water bottles for a reusable stainless steel one.

·        Store food in glass or stainless instead of plastic containers.

·        Use a laundry bag/filter to catch microfibers from clothes.

·        Vacuum or dust more often to lower the plastic bits in household air.

·        Skip heating food in plastic, use ceramic or glass instead.

·        If you drink tea, opt for loose leaf.

These tweaks don’t eliminate plastic completely, but they will stack up. 📚

What should we eat to help the body deal with microplastics?

I came across a TikTok video where a doctor mentioned a man who ate tamarind often and, to the doctor’s surprise, tested low on microplastics. 🤳🏻 He mentioned it was standard to see people testing high. I’ll be honest, I’m kinda on the fence with the tamarind claim and will wait for solid studies before taking it as fact.

But what it did make me realize though, is that food plays a real role in this fight. 💪🏻 Researchers already believe that a well-fed, antioxidant-rich body is better equipped to handle the stress microplastics create. Food that shine here include:

·        Seaweed – linked to binding toxins and supporting gut health 🍣

·        Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower) – support detox pathways in the liver 🥦

·        Berries – packed with antioxidants to fight inflammation 🫐

·        Citrus fruits – rich in vitamin C, which protects cells 🍊

·        Nuts and seeds – healthy fats that calm inflammatory stress 🥜

·        Green tea – catechins that support cellular cleanup 🍵

·        Garlic and onions – sulfur compounds that help detoxification 🧄🧅

·        Turmeric – curcumin for inflammation defense 🫚

Remember from our first microplastics dive, one of the sneaky ways these plastics mess with us is through inflammation? And yes, you guessed it Oleia Softgels can def help with that. Formulated with Cetylated Fatty Acids (CMO), they naturally help calm inflammation, support joint and muscle health, and ease oxidative stress. Think of it as a daily defense booster for our body. With so many stressors out of our control, we need all the help we can get… am I right? 😉

We may never live plastic-free (unless we decide to start foraging in the forest, barefoot, unplugged and we’re STILL not sure if there are no microplastics there. 🫣). But what we can do is lower the load where it counts and give our bodies the tools to stay strong. That’s the real battle we can win. 🥇

Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine? ’Til next time! 🌟
