Oil Pulling: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Oral Health ✨🪥

Oil Pulling: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Oral Health ✨🪥

Hey there! 😄

Have you ever tried oil pulling?

I have! But not as religiously as I would like. 😅 For those who don’t know what oil pulling is, it’s a traditional folk remedy practiced in ancient India and is believed to cure more than thirty systemic diseases when practiced regularly. 🧐

So how you do it, is you get a tablespoon of oil, swish it around your mouth for up to 20 minutes and spit it out. Some people (including me!) brush their teeth after this, you know to make it cleaner. 🪥✨

I don’t really know and can’t find information touting its ability to cure thirty systemic diseases 🤷‍♀️ but what I do know is one study I came across showcased the effectiveness of coconut oil pulling in reducing the presence of Streptococcus mutans 🦠, a notorious bacterium known for causing plaque buildup and tooth decay. 😬 This particular research, conducted with 60 adults, demonstrated a significant decrease in S. mutans count in saliva after just two weeks of daily oil pulling with coconut oil compared to distilled water. 💧 This is most likely due to the fact that coconut oil contains lauric acid which has an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which you knowww already if you’re reading through the blog. 😉 (yes, shameless plug 😂) Oil pulling was also found to be as effective as standard mouthwash in reducing S. mutans, according to an older study in children!

Further exploration led me to discover that oil pulling isn't just about combating bacteria—it also offers potential benefits for reducing plaque and gingivitis. 🙌  A 2020 study involving virgin coconut oil showed promise in reducing plaque accumulation when used for oil pulling. Then ANOTHER study compared coconut oil pulling to a placebo and found it effective in reducing plaque. So there really is something with it, huh? 🤔

You know what else I found that can potentially help oral health? Surprisingly, it’s frankincense oil!! 🫢 The boswellic acid it contains have good antibacterial properties which help treat oral infections, this was found in one study where high school students were given a gum containing 200mg of frankincense and they chewed it for two weeks! 🤯

So if we combine Coconut oil and Frankincense oil swish it for 20 mins…what will happen then? 🤔 Is it teeth with lesser plaque and bacteria? So that means no bad breath??? 😤 Sign me upppp!!!

Do you also know what has coconut oil and frankincense oil combined with other anti-inflammatory ingredients? Oh! Why it’s ✨Oleia Frankincense Oil✨ of course… and am I hurrying this along so I can get my hands on it to test my theory… why yes… yes I am… brb buying! 🏃‍♀️💨

Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine? ‘Til next time! 💋
