Calm the Chaos: How to Handle Anxiety While Waiting ⌚😰

Hey there! 👋

Pounding heart, queasy stomach, sweaty palms—we all know that feeling while waiting for something important. Whether it’s  for a job offer, an exam result, or even a text from someone special, the anticipation can be unbearable. 🙈

Did you know that "Anxiety Waiting" is a real term used? I sure, didn’t. 😝 Oh, and it turns out, that the stress we feel during these moments has a lot to do with how our brains are wired…did that intrigue you? Yeah. Me too. Let’s go!

As humans, we crave certainty and control---routines, if you will. While waiting, we feel both of those things out of reach. Our minds start spinning, conjuring up worst-case scenarios. (Can I get a hello from the overthinking girlies like me, out there? 😝) “What if I didn’t get the job?” “What if the news is bad?” “What if I’m stuck like this forever?” “ what if nothing works out?” It’s exhausting and can even trigger physical responses like a racing heart, tense muscles, shallow breathing or even eczema in some cases. 🙋 Good news abound though! There are ways to ease the discomfort of waiting and regain a sense of calm.

One thing I’ve found helpful is bringing awareness to the moment. It sounds simple, but focusing on the breath or the feeling of feet on the ground can help anchor. It’s about watching what’s happening without judgment—letting the anxiety be there without letting it take over. Sometimes, placing a hand over your heart and silently giving yourself a pep talk can bring a surprising amount of comfort. 😌

Another way to soothe the nerves is through sensory support. Have you ever noticed how certain smells or sounds can instantly change your mood? Aromatherapy is a personal favorite of mine. A few drops of 🌼Oleia Chamomile Oil🌼 or 🪻Oleia Lavender Oil🪻 can create a calming atmosphere that feels like a warm hug for the senses. And if one needs a little pick-me-up, 🍊Oleia Tangerine Oil’s🍊 uplifting scent can help shift the  mindset.

Breathing deeply is another underrated tool. 😮💨 It’s something one can do anywhere, whether in a crowded waiting room or pacing the living room. Techniques like 4-7-8 breathing—inhaling for four counts, holding for seven, and exhaling for eight—can help slow one’s heart rate and bring focus back to the present.

When the waiting feels unbearable, it can also help to redirect one’s focus. Call a friend (another personal fave 📱), dive into a hobby, or even take a walk. Anything that engages the mind and body can break the cycle of anxious thoughts. It’s not about ignoring the wait but finding ways to make waiting time feel meaningful.  After all, shifting one’s surroundings and thoughts sometimes shifts one’s perspective too. 🌳

You know, waiting is never easy, but it doesn’t have to be unbearable. By using tools like mindfulness, sensory support, redirection, and of course, a drop or two of our fave Oleia Oils, we can navigate those nerve-wracking moments with a bit more grace and a less more stomachaches, iykyk 😝 And who knows? Maybe the good news waiting on the other side will feel even sweeter. 😄

Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine? ‘Til next time! 🍬

xo, L
