Celebrate Smart: A PSA for Last Year’s Rise in Stroke, Heart Attack & Asthma 🚨🌲

Hey there!

The holidays are in full swing—malls are packed everyday, lights, reunions, and all the treats we look forward to all year. But here’s a reality check: the Department of Health reported a surge in stroke, heart attacks, and asthma during last year’s holiday season. Yes, celebrating is non-negotiable, but not overdoing it. 🫣

Why do Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) spike during the holidays?

It’s simple really, indulgence piles up. Rich, salty, sugary, or fried food, late nights, and the occasional extra drink push our bodies to the limit. 🍟🍕🍰 Stroke and heart attack cases rise sharply before Christmas Eve and New Year’s, mostly among adults 45 and up. Asthma attacks spike too, especially in kids, thanks to smoke from fireworks. It’s a perfect storm amidst the holiday fun.

How can we celebrate mindfully?

Moderation is our best friend. Enjoy the festive food, but with restraint and pace. Eat smaller portions of the indulgent stuff and fill up with lighter options, stay hydrated, and PLEASE do NOT skip rest. The holidays are exhausting for real, with everyone and their mothers wanting to meet up or take a trip (Somehwere na may snow 😝). Ofc we need to enjoy those moments but rest up and take a break, it’s alright. 😊

What tiny habits make a big difference?

Move a little after meals, keep alcohol in check, and track any symptoms if you have pre-existing conditions like hypertension, diabetes or asthma. These small choices create a huge buffer for the heart, lungs, and overall wellbeing. Even a short walk after a hearty meal keeps circulation steady and stress low. 🚶🏻➡️

While everyone enjoys the season, don’t forget daily care. Oh and a little Oleia Softgels fit on the routine can support our body’s balance quietly in the background, so we can celebrate fully without compromising our health. So have fun, eat & drink what you want (in moderation) and let’s all be merry and healthy! 🎅🏻

Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine? 'Til next time!
