Hey there!
Ā
Ā
We usually talk about stress living in our shoulders, our neck, even our jaw. But thereās one spot we tend to overlookāour scalp.
Ā
And once we notice it, itās hard to un-feel. š«£
Ā
Ā
Why does our scalp feel tight when weāre stressed?
Ā
Our scalp isnāt just āhair territory.ā It sits over a layer of muscles and connective tissue that respond to tension, just like the rest of our body. The occipitofrontalis muscle, which runs across the forehead and scalp, can subtly contract when weāre under pressure.
Ā
It doesnāt give sharp pain, no obvious cramping. Just that persistent tightness that our brain canāt wrap its head around. š
Ā
Sometimes it shows up as:
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā a heavy feeling at the top of our head
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā tenderness when we press certain spots
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā that almost āhelmet-likeā pressure
Ā
Studies on tension-type headaches have even found increased sensitivity in the scalp, meaning our skin and underlying tissue literally become more reactive to touch when weāre stressed.
Ā
So no, itās not in our head. Well⦠it is, but not in the way people mean. š
Ā
Ā
Why does scalp massage feel instantly calming?
Ā
Thereās a reason our hands instinctively go to our head when weāre overwhelmed.
Ā
The scalp is rich in nerve endings. When we apply gentle pressure or slow, circular movement, weāre not just ārelaxingā, weāre signaling the nervous system to shift gears. From a Level 3 to maybe a Level 1, iykwim. šØ
Ā
At the same time, weāre physically working through that built-up tension in the muscles and fascia. Studies have shown that techniques targeting the scalp can reduce headache intensity and frequency, which tells us this area holds more stress than we give it credit for.
Ā
Ā
A dry scalp massage can feel good, but adding a lightweight oil changes the experience completely. It allows our hands to move more fluidly, creating a smoother, more consistent rhythmāsomething the body responds to almost immediately.
Ā
Oleiaās blend, with its combination of olive, moringa, and pomegranate seed oils, was designed to support the skin, not sit on top of it. So while weāre easing tension through movement, weāre also giving the scalp something to help with the tightness. š
Ā
After all, the scalp may not be the first place we think of when it comes to stress, but it responds to tension just like the rest of the body. So itās time to give it some TLC, light pressure with a drop or two of Oleia and melt that stress away.
Ā
Ā
Show me your bottle and Iāll show you mine? āTil next time! š£ļø
