Slippery Roads, Cold Knees, and Bed Weather Feels: Rainy Days Abound ⛈️🫣

Hey there!

It’s been raining nonstop. Every day, it’s either pouring, about to pour, or recovering from pouring. Here in the Philippines, the wet season means one thing: brownouts, soaked socks, and streets that magically turn into swimming pools by lunchtime. 🫠

Rainfall, Floods, and…Barometric Pressure?

Here’s a little nerdy fact I love to remind myself of when my knees start screaming for no reason: rainy weather affects our bodies more than we think. 🤔

When storms roll in, barometric pressure drops, and that change in atmospheric pressure can actually cause our muscles, joints, and inflamed tissues to swell slightly. Think of it like your tissues expanding just a little—like your sinuses or joints puffing up because the air around you is pressing in less. Our nerve endings feel that pressure shift, for sure. That’s why so many of us get joint pain, migraines, or body heaviness even before the first raindrop hits. 🔭

Now add cold temps, less movement from staying indoors, and the constant stress of dodging floods or canceled plans—and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a flare-up.

Are there physical tolls on us during Rainy Season?

Floods, as we know, are more than just an inconvenience—they’re hazards.

Slippery floors = more muscle pulls. One wrong step and the next thing you know you’ve strained your back from trying not to fall.

Carrying heavy stuff in wet conditions? Your shoulders and wrists take the hit.

Walking in wet, tight shoes all day = plantar pain, inflamed ankles, and a new kind of bone-deep exhaustion.

And let’s not forget the mental load: dealing with power interruptions, school cancellations, and the hassle of reshuffling plans—again. Whether you’re inching through traffic, wading through ankle-deep baha, or hoping the roof doesn’t spring a leak, rainy season really knows how to test us (and our joints).

Don’t forget our fur babies too. 🐾

The wet season can also trigger flare-ups in pets with joint issues—Kinder, my young, tiny, baby dog (he’s 9 and an Alaskan Malamute 😂), has hip dysplasia and arthritis, and rainy days make him extra stiff and restless. We skip long walks and go for short, frequent ones (when the rain lets up). And yes—I rub Oleia Pure Oil on my hands and gently massage it on his hips and spine, it helps him a lot. (But clear with your vet and patch test first, I did too!)

What can we do to make the rainy season a little better?

When the clouds won’t let up, neither should our self-care. Remember the basics: bring an umbrella, wear a raincoat, and wear proper waterproof footwear. 🥾

If you waded through floodwater, please consider get checked by a physician. Water-borne diseases like leptospirosis are very real, even when you feel fine after. Better be safe that sorry.

A little rainy-day self care routine?

💜Oleia Topical Oil💜 on my lower back, wrists, and knees—especially after almost slipping on wet tiles and using my core strength to keep me upright. (Just kidding…kinda twisted my knee a bit 😅)

Oleia Softgels when I feel bloated, inflamed, or just over everything. The combo of CMO, Olive Oil, and Moringa Seed Oil is chef’s kiss for calming the internal chaos.

Warm compresses to soothe cold, stiff joints.

Quick stretches before bed.

Essential oils in the diffuser: Bea Oleia Pure Lavender Oil when I’m anxious, Peppermint when I’m sluggish.

Eat food that warms and fights inflammation, maybe some arrozcaldo with malunggay or a dash of turmeric? Sleep earlier, not later. And move—just a little—even if it’s just a few hip circles while brushing teeth.

Take it easy, my friend, stay safe.

And for the love of our joints—keep the Oleia within reach. 💜

Show me your bottle and I’ll show you mine? 'Til next time! 👋🏻
